Adopt a Pixen

A certain cat’s recent escape jerked my attention back to Pixen, the unloved pixel editor I helped write in high school. I patched it enough to get it launching in Snow Leopard, but Pixen needs a bit more TLC than its authors can offer.
We haven’t released a real new version in years, but for some reason we keep expecting that one day we’ll just crank out Pixen 4. Time to face the facts!
Pixen needs a new maintainer—or maybe maintainers—and we’re looking for volunteers. It’s still the only pixel editor for the Mac, and there’s still no good free MSPaint doppelganger, so we’d really like to see it live on.
Be warned: this is 10.1-era code, full of cruft and probably a number of features that should be removed. This was my first real Cocoa project; it shows.
That said, Pixen taught me oodles of Cocoa, and it helped get my name out there. If you’re a student looking to hone your developing skills and get some recognition, this might be a great way to do it.
Interested in taking up the torch? We’d love to hear from you.
